Clean Up Burnaby Campaign
Since June 2020, the Clean Up Burnaby Campaign has cleaned up:
- over 60 parks around Burnaby
- behind the Gilmore Avenue pump station
- Chub Creek near the Gilmore Avenue bridge
- over 10 kilometers of medians along Boundary Road
Clean Up Burnaby Campaign Timeline
While campaigning in the Burnaby municipal by-election, Martin decides to step up and clean up Burnaby streets and parks while taking part in campaign activities.
City Council Presentation
Martin gives an update to Burnaby City Council. Since June 2020, the Clean Up Burnaby Campaign has cleaned up over 200 kilograms of litter, which includes over 350 disposable PPE masks.
As a result of this presentation, the City of Burnaby purchases garbage tongs, buckets and other equipment to allow and encourage community litter clean up efforts.
Lofty goals for 2022
As part of his run for Burnaby City Council in October 2022, Martin has set a goal to pick up 1,000 pounds of garbage and 800 face masks by Election Day (October 15th).
Clean Up Burnaby Community Clean Up Extravaganza Events
Martin organized five Community Clean Up Extravaganza events in 2022. The clean up events were scheduled on:
Saturday April 16 - Metrotown area
Saturday May 14 - Brentwood area
Saturday June 11 - Burnaby Heights area
Saturday July 2 - Lougheed Town Centre area
Saturday August 13 - Royal Oak area
These Community Clean Up events removed over 1,300 pounds of garbage and hundreds of face masks from these areas in Burnaby.
On June 8th, 2022, Martin made good on his goal to pick up 1,000 pounds of garbage in 2022.
In 2022, Martin picked up over 1,700 pounds of garbage from streets, parks, waterways and more around Burnaby.
800 face masks...complete!
On June 25th, 2022, Martin made good on his goal to pick up 800 face masks in 2022.
In 2022, Martin ended up picking up over 1,400 face masks all around Burnaby.
More goals for 2023
Martin will continue the Clean Up Burnaby Campaign in 2023, and has set a personal goal to pick up 500 pounds of garbage and 250 face masks this year.
